Was just interested in how Romanians view the Greeks, their religious practises (especially the Romanian orthodox people)? Do they use the new calendar or the old like the Serbs and Russians? Do they celebrate the same name days etc? Do the Romanians feel connected to Hellenism, or are they more influenced by Latin culture given their linguistic affiliation?
It should be noted that Romanian nationalism in the 19th century extended into ottoman macedonia via the Vlach people. Although the majority of the Vlachs were loyal to the ecumenical patriarch there were at times some disputes amongst the vlach and hellenic people. These corrupted Vlachs as the Hellenes would call them, were seen to be influenced by Romanian nationalism? However Romania's detached geographical position from Ottoman Macedonia rendered their territorial claims useless. Pitu Guli for example, the IMARO chief of the Krusevo republic was a Vlach (aroumanian) who fought for the Bulgarian cause...
So would just like a brief synopsis with respect to the understanding and co-operation between the centuries. These peoples are definitely linked by religion as a starting point. Your thoughts?

Alots of questions...
Romanians use new calendar.
Yes they do celebrate the same dates.
Romanians are very well conected with latin people because is a latin people , they do not feel connected to hellenism but they have a very big respect.
They respect all that hellenism means.
About Macedonian issue you know...
Romanians consider serbs as brothers because they are the only neighbour that did not try to steal land from Romania.
Half of Banat region is now in Serbia in the Voivodina region , the king Carol I had a chance to take this land back but he prefered to leave to the serbians as a gift. |
